With my recent decision to share my passion for makeup I have been posed with many questions about my routines and beauty favorites. It is something I truly make time for and cherish. My friends and others close to me usually ask similar questions. It’s always something like how do I start to get into makeup without breaking the bank? Or If I am going to splurge on one thing what would that be? What is your favorite makeup brand? These are some of the most common questions asked and my answer is the same every time. I usually give a few of my favorite starter products and tell them to play around with them! No use in splurging if you won’t use it! And that doesn’t always mean the most expensive products out there are the best.
I want to share some products with you that I think would be great to grab if you’re a newcomer to makeup or even just want to spice up your routine a bit without spending big $$$$.
Brushes are essential to makeup application. I have tried many brands from high end to low end and I have found that my favorite line for the price would have to be Real Techniques. These are great not only for their amazing quality and ability to withstand harsh use but, because they are sold almost everywhere in America with a makeup section. I can walk into HEB, Walmart or Target looking for groceries and pick up one of these gems. I have used every brush in their range and have narrowed down my favorite ones for you.
- The Powder Brush
- The Sculpting Brush for applying foundation
- The Setting Brush for locking in your under eye concealer
- The Deluxe Crease Brush for blending out shadows
- The Base Shadow Brush for blending out shadows
- The Miracle Complexion Sponge (like a beauty blender but better and cheaper). You can get two of these for $11 where a beauty blender is $20 for one.
After brushes I can recommend a few concealers that I personally love! I have dry under eye areas so concealer is a tricky one for me. Finding something that covers but doesn’t cake up is hard. It’s been a long hunt for these but I have found some drugstore concealers that work perfectly.
- The Maybelline Instant Age Rewind (my absolute favorite)
- The Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer
- The Maybelline FIT me Concealer
- The NYX HD Photogenic Concealer
The ONLY powder from the drugstore I will use – and I think I like it more than my Laura Mercier Translucent setting powder – is the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Translucent.
I have only found two drugstore foundations that are suited for my skin type. I am just going to give you tips on picking out the right one for you. If you have oily skin you are going to want to aim for foundations that claim to be matte, mattefying, poreless or color stay formulas. If you have drier skin like me you will want to go for a foundation that claims to be sheer, satin, aluminizing, or moisturizing. For me I love..
- Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation
- L’Oréal True Match LUMI
If you take one thing away from this post let it be this.. For brows I know the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz is very popular but it’s also $21. I am obsessed with the NYX Micro Brow Pencil. Its half the price and I swear the packaging is almost identical just different colors. The product works just as well for me and I save money in the process. WIN!
My favorite bronzers tend to be ones that don’t look like dirt on me because of my light complexion. Sometimes I like a more matte bronzer to contour and other times I prefer one I can brighten up my face with. Either way, these are a few of my must haves.
- Rimmel Natural Bronzer
- Physicians Formula Bronze Booster in Medium to Dark (light is too sheer)
- Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer!! (Fair-Medium Skin) SMELLS AWESOME!
Blush! I swear blush can turn any look from so so to fabulous in an instant. There are some people who say they don’t need blush but I think it’s necessary and everyone should wear it.
- Milani Baked Blushes (OMG)
- NYX Ombre Blush
- NYX Cream Blush
I have covered the basic starter things I would suggest to anyone looking to get into makeup and I hope this has been helpful to y’all! These are my favorite types of posts. If you have any questions on drugstore dupes or want to suggest something to me feel free to comment! I am always looking to tryout new products.
